My first look at 'Magic's little sister' -- November 3, 2008 at 4 months of age:   Mi Milagro
Milagro was "meant to be." Miles began preparing her for her plane trip; he recorded the progress in this series of videos.   She ended up sleeping overnight in his lap a few days before her flight....

Milagro arrived safely at the Albuquerque airport on November 10.

She's a sweetheart and VERY smart!   ...She's also strong-willed and defiant....

I haven't had a puppy since 1982...   and back then I had reinforcements -- a husband and small son.   I wasn't truly prepared for PUPPYNESS --that bundle of energy and destruction!   I hope I survive (AND hang on to my "pack leader" role).

Milagro is learning commands easily.   She's my first dog ever to be allowed on the sofa, where she endearingly sleeps on her back with her legs splayed out and up.   I love her body heat!

So far, she's eaten a rug, ALL my sofa cushions, a mattress pad and pieces of many books; she gets into the trash and spreads it gleefully around the house.   She's worked on eating the remote controls and has taken tastes of wooden furniture.   My old girl, Jita, is wonderfully tolerant of her--if a bit shocked at some of her behavior-- and despite her arthritis plays "growly games" for hours with the pup.

I was using a squirt bottle of water for "serious" discipline... until Milagro jumped on a table and chewed holes in the bottle....

She's always testing me -- keeping an eye on me while she begins a new destruction project....   I can't leave a room without her following me; if I close the bathroom door when I go in, she waits outside the door.   (If I don't close the door, she exhibits wonderful curiosity about EVERYTHING.)

Miles has been so very supportive, calling us on the phone to see how we're doing.   He plans to visit a sheepdog trial in NM in the spring-- I can't wait to meet him.

She's going to be a great dog... if we can just make it through puppyhood.
'Jita watches the destruction with alarm...
...but overcame her qualms when the rawhide chews appeared.
My friend Marilyn helped me immensely by lending me a baby gate and this "apartment."
Milagro "helping" me give a Spanish class outside at the picnic table.
She's a tall girl -- mostly legs (and ears).   But Miles predicts she'll be a small Border Collie, around 30 lbs.   I suspect she may already be 30 lbs at 6 months. ('Jita and Chabeli and my first BC, Molly, were all around 40 to 45 lbs.)
Her sense of humor is certainly developing as well.
We may need to go to dog school.   Then sheepdog school???   But first things first-- her spay date is coming up at the end of February.
She quickly found the "peek holes" in the outside wall, and she checks out the goings-on when she isn't too busy digging holes or eating... snails.
Visiting Marilyn just before Valentine's Day
Milagro's first present -- a sextopus?   When she tired of shaking it and tossing it, she "hid" it under a bush and kept guard, making stiff-legged feints at her old sister and Marilyn's big dog Petl.   The little imp was born to rule!
